Abandoned Mobile Apps Report - Google Play Store

Pixalate's Q2 2024 Abandoned Mobile Apps Report for the Google Play Store analyzes apps from the Google Play Store that have been “abandoned.” An app is considered abandoned if it has not been updated in at least two years. The report also analyzes “super abandoned” apps (last updated 4+ years ago).

Key Findings:

  • 79.5k+ abandoned apps with ads, which represent 13% of total apps with ads in Google Play Store, down from 26% in the previous year during Q2 2023.
  • $1.5MM estimated global ad spend on abandoned apps from Google Play in Q2 2024.
  • 13% of likely child-directed apps were found to be abandoned, down from 34% in the previous year (Q2 2023).
