Industry News

According to Lowpass, The Trade Desk is preparing to enter the competitive smart TV operating system market, aiming to rival established players such as Roku, Google, and Amazon. The company has been developing its own smart TV OS in secrecy since the pandemic, employing a team that includes former Roku staff. This initiative is designed to attract device manufacturers seeking alternatives to existing platforms.

They are reportedly offering more favorable revenue-sharing agreements and greater customization options for hardware partners compared to its competitors. The OS is based on Android AOSP, which facilitates development and app porting but may face challenges due to potential conflicts with Google over the use of forked Android versions. The company has already secured at least one partner, with the first device expected to launch as early as next year.
