Pixalate’s recent Q4 2022 Delisted Mobile Apps Report provides an in-depth analysis of delisted apps across the Google and Apple app stores. An app can be“Delisted” for a number of reasons from the benign like the developer's decision to withdraw the app to the more serious, like breaches of app store policies. This week, we compare the number of delisted apps in 2022 across the Google and Apple App Stores using quarterly data from 2022 and 2021.
There has recently been huge news from Microsoft, covered by Ars Technica this week in their article titled "Microsoft plans mobile games app store to rival Apple and Google"
Microsoft is preparing to launch a new app store for games on iPhones and Android smartphones, possibly in 2024.
Phil Spencer, chief executive of Microsoft Gaming, said:
“We want to be in a position to offer Xbox and content from both us and our third-party partners across any screen where somebody would want to play...”
“...Today, we can’t do that on mobile devices but we want to build towards a world that we think will be coming where those devices are opened up.”
Marketing Brew highlighted information recently published by DoubleVerify this week in their article titled "Ad fraud has come to audio, according to report"
DoubleVerify had revealed the uncovering of alleged audio fraud through a scheme they have termed 'BeatSting'.
Marketing Brew cited Roy Rosenfeld, the head of DoubleVerify's Fraud Lab:
“You’re seeing an explosion in podcasts and other types of audio inventory, but it still doesn’t really meet the increasing demand...”
"...As soon as you have this imbalance between demand and supply, especially in these high-engagement channels like CTV and obviously audio as well, this just creates an opportunity for fraud and invalid traffic.”

Per the MRC, “'Fraud' is not intended to represent fraud as defined in various laws, statutes and ordinances or as conventionally used in U.S. Court or other legal proceedings, but rather a custom definition strictly for advertising measurement purposes. Also per the MRC, “‘Invalid Traffic’ is defined generally as traffic that does not meet certain ad serving quality or completeness criteria, or otherwise does not represent legitimate ad traffic that should be included in measurement counts. Among the reasons why ad traffic may be deemed invalid is it is a result of non-human traffic (spiders, bots, etc.), or activity designed to produce fraudulent traffic.”
