Google Ads bans kids' targeting based on age, gender, and interests

"Google Ads in the coming months will expand the safeguards it has in place to prevent age-sensitive ad categories from being served up to people under 18, as more schools, classes, and meetups are held online," according to MediaPost.
 
 

Bipartisan Senate bill targets Google and Apple competition advantage

A group of senators introduced a bill aiming to reduce the dominant position of Apple and Google in the mobile ecosystem. The bill "aims to boost competition and consumer protections by placing new restrictions on how the stores operate and what rules they can impose on app developers," informs the Wall Street Journal.

Facebook says its advertising will be more mindful of privacy

Facebook says it is rebuilding its ad ecosystem to gather less data about users than it used to collect. According to The Verge, "Facebook is examining several privacy-enhancing techniques to deliver personalized ads without knowing anything about the specific individuals who view them."

Google considers changing FLoC to topic-based targeting

Due to the possible fingerprinting of FLoC, Google is considering switching its approach to topic-based targeting. "The potential update of the Federated Learning of Cohorts targeting technique ...] would involve assigning topic categories to websites and people rather than assigning opaque numerical cohort IDs to them," informs Digiday.
